A planning lens, not a welfare score. Shadows use five imaginary observers along the front edge; plants are simplified opaque shapes. Trail paths use a point-sized mover on a 25 × 15 grid. This does not predict animal vision, body clearance, behavior, safety, temperature, or humidity. Check all dimensions and conditions in the real enclosure.
01 / ARRANGE
Room for choice
Arrange shelters and foliage at your own scale.
02 / EXPLORE
A hidden passage
Compare geometric cover and grid passages.
03 / OBSERVE

01 / TERRESTRIAL
Leopard gecko
Compare shelters at both ends of a measured thermal gradient. Keep a humid refuge available and make sure each shelter can contain the whole animal.
Warm / cool labels describe your intended placement, not calculated temperatures.
Switch to elevation to arrange foliage and branches at different heights. Check stable anchoring, access to feeding points and refuges throughout the climbing space.
Elevation is a separate 2D diagram; a visible line is not proof of a traversable 3D route.
Use this preset to reserve floor area for burrowing and inspect access around the water bowl. Substrate depth, moisture and support for heavy decor require hands-on checks and species-specific advice.
The preset is a sketch, not a validated husbandry recommendation.
HIDE DETECTIVE
Watch. Note. Learn.
Record the hide used, time, measured temperature and humidity. Compare observations after a layout change without assuming that a single visit reveals a preference.
Layouts and notes stay in this browser. Clearing browser storage removes them. PNG exports contain the diagram, not the diary.
HANDS-ON INSPECTION

Questions from the field
What does the privacy percentage mean?
It is the mean fraction of five front-edge sightlines blocked at sampled empty floor points. It measures simplified geometry only. It has no target value and is not a stress or welfare measurement.
Does the trail find safe routes?
It finds a shortest connected grid route between the first two hides, avoiding simplified solid obstacles. Green segments are occluded from most front observers; amber segments are exposed. Check real body width, entrances and support yourself.
Can this model temperature or humidity?
No. The warm-to-cool tint is an intended zone marker for the terrestrial preset. Use instruments to measure actual conditions; lighting changes are visual only.
How should I choose a hide?
Check internal space, entrances, secure support and cleaning access. RSPCA advises refuges at both warm and cool ends, with enough room for the reptile to fit fully inside.
